About Me

One crazy, fun loving family!

Welcome to my blog!

My interest in genealogy began about sixteen years ago when my dad was writing his autobiography. He didn’t know much about his family history, so I decided to help. What started as a simple research project quickly turned into a passion. I uncovered far more than I ever imagined, and I’ve been hooked ever since!

Along the way, I have been fortunate to receive help from many generous genealogists who have shared pedigree charts, family history records, photos, stories, family Bibles, and more. I hope to "pay it forward" by helping others. If you think I might be able to assist you, feel free to contact me at brae957 at gmail dot com.

I attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and Health Education. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats—home economics teacher, preschool teacher, WIC nutritionist, and my most rewarding role: mom. These days, I’m enjoying my "retirement."

My retirement includes involvement in the genealogical community. I have served in various leadership roles, including Past President of the Michigan Genealogical Council. Currently, I am a Director for the Michigan Germanic Genealogical Society and a board member, volunteer librarian and archivist for the Fort Custer Historical Society.

Family is everything to me. My wonderful husband, Kirk, has always supported my genealogy obsession—perhaps because I’ve extended my research to his family as well! We married in 1981 in Michigan. After graduating from college, I moved back in with my parents while job hunting, but instead, I found the love of my life.

We are blessed with two amazing children, Kirsten and Travis, along with our wonderful son-in-law, Chase, and daughter-in-law, Alayna. Our family wouldn’t be complete without our grand pups: Ella, and Study Agnello-Dean, Caesar, and Charlotte Leyndyke.

When I’m not chasing new genealogical leads, you’ll find me caring for my 95-year-old mother and my husband, reading, exploring AI, and most recently, writing a book about Fort Custer.

Thank you for stopping by! If you see something you like or have suggestions for improvement (it’s the teacher in me!), please leave a comment—I’d love to hear from you.
